God. Fucking. Damn.

Here at The Anime Reality, we’ve come across a lot of pretty awful anime fans. Some are horrible, most are laughable, but for the most part they’re pretty uniform across most anime forums. I thought it would be hard to find more good material until this guy:

THIS GUY

1: Never assume your Japanese hunny is a fujoshi. Many Japanese women find this word offensive, especially since it means “rotten girl” in Japanese. My otaku girlfriend forgave me that one because I told her a humorous story about how I mistook a yaoi manga for a shojo one based on the cover, but still, that stumble was almost a relationship breaker.

2: If she’s born in Australia, from Japanese parents, don’t assume anything about her culture based on her behaviour initially. If in doubt, ask her a little bit about why she does those little things like smiling when she’s embarrassed (my girlfriend does this, but other Japanese girls used to Australia might not) or why she seems shy at first but really has a range of emotional states that… pretty much any girl goes through, regardless of nationality. Basically the second rule is, never assume anything, but always ask and be willing to listen and learn.

3: Don’t pretend you know more than she does about Japan. I don’t bother pretending because I know full well that while she seems shy sometimes my Japanese girlfriend will pwn you if you try and stereotype her or her culture. She does not do this because she is inherently agressive. It is because, quite simply, wouldn’t I get angry if somebody assumed I ate haggis and got drunk a lot just because I’m Scots-Irish? Besides, it’s more fun assuming you know a lot less than you do about your girlfriend’s culture and learning her unique insights. Like how just because she’s Japanese doesn’t mean she approves of whaling.

4: Rabu-Rabu means never having to say you’re sorry… for ruining the intended meaning of I Love You. Granted, since my girlfriend was born in Australia she knows couples say “I Love You” to one another a lot, but for her she doesn’t like saying it too often. So she substitutes it with “Rabu-Rabu” when she wants to express warm, fuzzy love. This is because “I Love You” is a powerful phrase to her and shouldn’t be wasted with gooey lovey dovey talk.

5: Always get her permission before posting anything related to your relationship with her on your blog. My girlfriend let me do this article on my blog because she thinks it will be a cute article, also because I’m not revealing anything particularly private about her in it. Train Man got the girl by posting for help with his relationship, but my girlfriend says although it’s fine to tell some people I know online about her, it’s not a good idea to be the next Densha Otoko because who knows, maybe if we break up it will be awkward having to explain my declarations of love online.

Asperger’s Anime Blogger

by on May 6th, 2009 at 7:18 pm, under Image, Text

Bio: I’m a 19 year old with Asperger’s Syndrome (which is as real as my medication bills, no flaming) who likes to see things a different way to most people. I don’t understand people sometimes, but I like it when they try and understand ME.

Hi, I’m the Asperger’s Anime Blogger. I used to be called newgeekphilosopher because I considered myself a bit of an intellectual at the time, but people thought that name was pretentious. At Yukan Blog where I do the occasional article, blissmo still hasn’t changed my blogger name to the new one, a stasis I regret since I no longer feel that newgeekphilosopher is an accurate name for me. Heck, I’m more of a literary theorist by definition, and even that’s a stretch.

I call myself the Asperger’s Anime Blogger because of the fact I am an Anime blogger with Asperger’s Syndrome. Not self-diagnosed, the real stuff, which is why Kevin Rudd sends me a bit of cash every fortnight to pay for my meds. Ever since I realised I could use my unique worldview to help review Anime in a refreshing and new manner I decided to do it the Aspie way.
