Full disclosure: I fucking adore Evangelion and honestly think it’s a pop-art masterpiece, and this guy is so astonishingly pretentious he has tempted me to join the haters just to spite him. Some time last year he pretty much disappeared from the forums (and since then the film discussion boards became a much more pleasant place). I was wondering where he’d gotten off to. I guess IMDB forum-goers are easier to impress than people who occasionally challenge his self-proclaimed cinema expertise. Check out his blogs (linked in his IMDB signature) if you want to read a seeming parody of stuffy, pretentious internet film “critics”.
“The forums”, as I probably should have mentioned, being the Eva forum at which I am a semi-regular where he got his start.
Though, if you want to talk about nutty Eva fans, I sure hope you’ve been to http://www.revolutionofeva.org and its associated Youtube channel. No one can top that.

Evangelion certainly has a lot going for it, but it’s not “The Wire,” just a mishmash of Christian and Jewish mythology and sci-fi.

I remember when one of my friends said pretty much the same thing to me!
…In fourth grade.
